Day’s Eve

 “The rising sun will come to us from heaven to shine on those living in darkness
and in the shadow of death… “
Luke 1:78–79

Awakened from chrysalis dreams I keep

Waiting, between the eve and day’s sunrise,

To condescend upon this place and shine

Life into these shadowy souls asleep.

Not yet but I already imagine

My family gathering round the tree—

Green with Day’s hope of peace and glory

Treasuring gifts received and given.

Yet not revealed amid the reveling,

My growing golden dream of all things new—

Expanding gravity of grace and truth

Resounding from the Day’s Eve caroling.

Child-like I joy amidst the gifted present,

Still keeping watch for Daylight’s descent.
