Barnabas Groups
Barnabas groups are prayer and support teams for Park Street Church’s staff missionaries. These teams provide a way for members of the Park Street community to become more personally involved in supporting and encouraging our missionaries.
What does a Barnabas group do?
• Periodically meets together to worship and bring the missionary’s needs before God.
• Commits to pray regularly for the missionary, apart from the periodic meetings.
• Gets to know their missionary, their missionary’s work, culture, and host nation, and
encourages their missionary in a multitude of ways.
• Shares and exchanges news and information between the missionary and the
congregation.
• Helps the missionary with personal needs – while on the field or while visiting the
states. E.g., housing, transportation, etc.
• Supports the missionary financially.
• Helps the missionary in many ways when they come home on furlough.
How can you be involved?
If you already know a missionary and you would like them to consider you as a member of their Barnabas team, let us know by contacting the missions office. We’ll contact that missionary’s Barnabas group and the missionary and keep you updated on the Barnabas group process. Occasionally, some Barnabas groups are closed groups – that is, they are not accepting new members. They would, of course, love to have you pray for the missionary as well. In such cases, prayer requests could still be forwarded to you for you to pray through. If a Barnabas group is “full,” we would encourage you to consider being part of another group or to help facilitate a new group.
If you don’t already know a Park Street missionary, speak to us and we can help you begin to get to know one or some of our missionaries. This is the first step towards becoming a member of a Barnabas team.
