[foundations] cornerstone
ABOUT US
The Cornerstone Series is a two-year curriculum designed to explore the essential matters of our faith. These core classes will lead us from the most basic questions of faith to challenging theological issues to practical aspects of Christian life. Our aim is to see each member and regular attendee built up in his or her relationship with God and equipped for ministry to other Christians and the world. As with all Christian Formation classes, our overall goal is not just to learn for the sake of gaining more knowledge, but for maturing in Christ, as individuals and as a church body.

**Year One classes, offered Sep 2010–May 2011, Sundays, 9:45–10:45 am**
Foundations of the Faith
We will discuss the foundational truths of our faith that Scripture progressively unfolds—from Genesis to Revelation. Our goal is to grasp the essential and historic truths Christians believe and how these truths impact our lives. We will discuss what it means to be a Christian, a Protestant, and an Evangelical, and will also cover the Bible, the Trinity, Jesus Christ, the Holy Spirit, the Church, baptism and the Lord’s Supper.
How to Study the Bible
Anyone can learn tools and methods to study the Bible. We will teach a step-by-step method for interpreting the Bible that you can apply to any passage of Scripture. We will discuss what makes a good translation, how the type of literature in a book affects your interpretation, how to do word studies, and more. This class will enrich your personal Bible study and equip you to lead Bible studies with greater confidence.
Evangelism and Missions: Spreading the Gospel Today
We will discuss the biblical and theological truths that give us a foundation for evangelism and missions, suggesting creative ways for sharing our faith in Christ. Using case studies, statistics and examples from Park Street Church’s own missions policy of full support, we will explore how we can pray for opportunities for personal evangelism, be involved in cross-cultural missions and support both short-term and career missions.
**Year Two Classes, offered Sep 2009–May 2010, Sundays, 9:45–10:45 am**
Promises Kept: The Old Testament and Its Message
(replaced this year with “Reflections by the River”)
As Part One of the history of our redemption, this class will take us from Creation to Sinai, and to the rise and fall of Israel and Judah. Our goal is to focus on major Old Testament themes in order to gain an understanding of God’s plan of redemption from the beginning.
Great Expectations: The New Testament and Its Message
As Part Two of the history of our redemption, this class will continue the story begun in the Old Testament. As we walk from the gospels to Revelation, we will discover that God’s fulfillment of past promises guarantees he will keep future ones.
Defining Moments in Church History
As the Church, we are not just beneficiaries of redemptive history, but participants in it. We’ll survey the last 2,000 years of our participation, focusing on major turning points that defined who and what the Church is. In the process we’ll find inspiration, guidance, understanding, and role models as we strive to be Christ’s Church.
