Maple Sugaring Festival at Moose Hill Wildlife Sanctuary
Saturday, March 20, 9:00am - 4:00pm
Sharon, Massachusetts
Join us for a half-day trip to the scenic Moose Hille Wildlife Sanctuary, which is Mass Audubon's oldest and largest (nearly 2,000 acres) sanctuary. During a special 90-minute outdoor guided-tour, we will "travel back in time" and discover the history of maple sugaring. There we will visit a Native American and colonial site with role-actors demonstrating daily chores and activities of that period, including making maple syrup. Afterwards, we will visit the present-day, operational sugar house where maple sap is turned into syrup. A maple syrup tasting concludes the tour.
Pancakes with syrup, "sap" dogs, and maple popcorn will be available for a small additional fee at the Nature Center. Children are welcome to make a simple project at the children's craft table, to remind them of your maple sugaring experience. Have fun and test your maple sugaring knowledge at the quiz board.
After the tour and as time permits, smaller groups may hike segments of the beautiful 25-mile trail system of the Wildlife Sanctuary that takes you through diverse habitats. A gift shop and indoor exhibits are also open to the public.
Trip is limited to first 20 people fully-registered and paid. Cost is $20 for adults (same for children). These fees cover admission to the Wildlife Sanctuary, Maple Sugaring Festival, transportation and lunch.
