[disabilities ministry]

The Disability Ministries are a growing ministry of the church funded in part by a generous bequest from Phyllis Onusseit. Our desire is to become a church that ministers to and with people of differing abilities and disabilities.

We currently offer:
• Volunteers that assist a child with special needs for Sunday worship and classes, as well as Friday night activities.
Special equipment for the visually-impaired and hearing-impaired.
Volunteers to help those in wheelchairs to attend worship services.
Friendship Ministry to adults with cognitive disabilities (see below).
Wheelchair-accessible building. (We are currently working on improvements, but the sanctuary, restrooms and most classrooms are accessible.)
• We currently do not have a Deaf Ministry, but we do have some services for people who are Deaf, including a weekly ASL interpreted evening worship service (interpreted via volunteers)."

[cognitive disabilities] friendship bible study

ABOUT US
Since the early 1980s, Friendship Ministries has been sharing God's love with people who have cognitive disabilities and helping them become active members of God's family.  The new Friendship Bible Study at Park Street Church is for adults who would benefit from a socially supportive, highly structured, slow-paced, Bible study.  The study is primarily geared for people who have cognitive disabilities although others who appreciate this focus and structure are welcome.

The first meeting of the Friendship Ministry Bible Study will take place on September 19, 2007 and will meet each Wednesday evening (except during holiday seasons) from 7:00 - 8:30 pm.

Because a key component to Friendship Bible Studies is the pairing of participant "friends" and "mentors" in order to help individualize, apply, and reinforce the Scriptural truths, we are seeking fellow Park Street adults who would commit to attending weekly sessions for the duration of at least one semester.  Mentor training sessions will be offered in September and May, with on-going support throughout.

During our first year, we will be working through the following units:
Talking to God About Your Feelings
    Faith for Tough Times
    Helping Each Other
    Growing Closer to God
    Learning the Lord's Prayer
    Caring for God's World
