[MORNING SERVICE] Judges

Gordon will be resuming his sermon series on Judges from 2010. The closing eight chapters, which includes the life and work of Samson, are among the most interesting, most puzzling, and most frequently neglected chapters of the Bible. When accurately interpreted, however, their lessons could hardly be more encouraging, Christ-exalting, and applicable to our lives. May the Holy Spirit, who inspired this fascinating portion of His Word, enable us to understand it, take it to heart, and be transformed by it into an ever-increasing likeness to Christ.

[EVENING SERVICE] Signs from Solomon

“He has so much potential!” You’ve probably made that statement about someone with immense talent and a bright future. In Solomon’s case, God declared it about him. Wisdom, wealth, long life, and royal rule were his to have. What did Solomon do with all that potential? Well, it’s complicated. Solomon’s wisdom brought Israel to a height of power and peace, but his folly set it on a course of division and demise. In studying Solomon’s life and activities, we have an opportunity to know ourselves better – our potential for wisdom and folly.

There is, however, more to the puzzle of Solomon. He is more than a case study in wisdom and folly, more than a lesson for our lives. He represents a pivotal moment in the unfolding of God’s plan of salvation that provided important signposts on the road to Jesus. Ultimately, in studying Solomon’s life and activities, we have an opportunity to know Jesus better.
