ABOUT US
The Woman’s Benevolent Society (WBS) is the longest running ministry of Park Street Church. Primarily a missionary support fellowship, we have been helping the poor, supporting the church and raising funds for missions since 1809, the year that Park Street was founded.
Service Projects
Among our service projects, WBS sends out badly needed rolled bandages to medical missionaries. We knit blankets and other items to help meet the needs of our 4th Trimester ministry to new mothers, A Woman’s Concern and Daybreak crisis pregnancy centers and Starlight Ministries to the homeless. We also encourage those in our church who are experiencing distress by sending them cheerful cards.
Weekly Meetings
We work hard and laugh lots every Wednesday, where we break for a light lunch and some more friendly fellowship. Often, we hear an inspiring speaker who shares a testimony, an update or a word from the Scriptures. A major part of our meeting is spent in intercessory prayer. “The prayer of a righteous man [or woman] is powerful and effective” (James 5:16). We pray for our missionaries and for the personal needs of those in our congregation. Through this kind of support, we develop personal connections to each of our overseas ministers and their families.
Annual Missions Conference Luncheon
One of our annual highlights is the WBS Missions Conference Luncheon, which is held on the Wednesday of Park Street’s week-long annual conference. We host the pastoral and church staff, our missionaries, and many of our church members as we affirm, recognize and bless those who have faithfully supported the building of the kingdom of God here in Boston and throughout the world.
JOIN US
We meet every Wednesday, September through June, from 10 am–2 pm in Park Street Church’s Granary Room, where we engage in several different crafts such as quilting, sewing, knitting and recycling Christmas cards and stamps to raise funds for our missionaries.
If you would like to learn a new skill and make a new friend while engaging in direct ministry, feel free to drop in and say hello at any of our meetings. We invite all adult women to participate in our ongoing legacy.
