Gifts to Hawaii Churches

In October 2019, we celebrated the 200th anniversary of sending the first missionaries to the Sandwich Islands (Hawaii) from Park Street Church. Those missionaries started churches on three of the islands. We formed new friendships and renewed old ones with these three congregations. We hoped to send representatives to celebrations in Hawaii the following spring (2020), bearing gifts, but due to the pandemic those celebrations were canceled. This week David and Lia Rix are traveling to Kauai and will be able to carry our gifts!

What are the gifts? The very talented Adrian Johnston has painted meaningful scenes onto three slates that were retired from active service on the Park Street Meetinghouse roof. View the details of the paintings and the context of their meaning below.

Kidsweek 2021

Come with us as we journey along the Rocky Railway and learn how Jesus’ power pulls us through! This year Kidsweek will be virtual again. The two primary reasons for making this decision are the uncertainty of government crowd restrictions at that point and the uncertainty around people’s readiness to be in large crowds. This year, we will host live watch parties in the morning, and encourage families to team-up to do Kidsweek together! We are hopeful that in 2022, we will return to a full and robust in-person program!

Tweens will go on a field trip to Canobie Lake Park during the week. The field trip will be optional and have an added cost. At the end of our week, we will have an outdoor meet-up at a park.

Prayer & Praise

Pray for the Congregation

  • “Preserve me, O God, for in you I take refuge. I say to the Lord, ‘You are my Lord; I have no good apart from you’” (Psa 16:1-2);
  • Fear your fear of man (Pro 29:25);
  • Ask God to open the way for sharing your faith (Col 4:6);
  • Hold onto faith amidst suffering and trials (Jas 1:2-3).

Pray for the People

  • For our Elders: may God’s leading, wisdom and love manifest in greater measure; pray too for elders and the church leadership as they attempt to deal with what is immediately before them, while fixing their eyes on Jesus and his will;
  • For our Deacons and Lay Leaders: wisdom, patience, and courage that they may strengthen the weak and raise up those who fall;
  • For our Global Missionaries, “E & G:” who are serving in Asia, that they would have more opportunities to mobilize and mentor local believers to share the gospel in their daily context;
  • For our Staff: renewal of right spirits, reliance on the Holy Spirit, and sustenance by God’s willing Spirit;
  • For our Nation: in the midst of violence and struggles for justice and truth, to confront one another without hatred or bitterness;
  • Consolation for families and communities grieving from violent attacks in communities across our country this week;
  • De-escalation of tensions between Ukraine and Russia;
  • Hope and courage for all battling illness or disease, and comfort from God’s presence throughout;
  • Mercy and help for those seeking employment and those struggling due to food insecurities and housing uncertainties;
  • Continued vigilance and perseverance in mitigating community spread of the novel coronavirus and its variants;
  • Provision for an effective distribution of COVID-19 vaccines.

Pray for Grace

  • To walk in the way of the Cross, and find it none other than the way of life and peace;
  • To esteem one another and others as created in the glory of God;
  • To unite in Christ across race, color, creed, tribe, or gender lines.
