What Shall I Render to the Lord
Words: Psalm 116:12–14, 17–19, alt. Lutheran Book of Worship
Music: Peter Tiefenbach (b. 1960)

What shall I render to the LORD for all his benefits to me?
I will offer the sacrifice of thanksgiving, and will call on the name of the LORD.
I will take the cup of salvation and will call on the name of the LORD.
I will pay my vows to the LORD now in the presence of all his people.
In the courts of the LORD‘s house, in the midst of you, O Jerusalem.

* CALL TO WORSHIP from Psalm 100
Lyford Beverage, Elder

Leader: O be joyful in the LORD, all you lands; serve the LORD with gladness, and come before his presence with a song.
People: Be assured that the LORD, he is God; it is he that has made us, and not we ourselves; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.
Leader: O go your way into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise; be thankful unto him, and speak good of his Name.
People: For the LORD is gracious, his mercy is everlasting, and his truth endures from generation to generation.

* HYMN No. 98 Now Thank We All Our God

* INVOCATION, CONFESSION, & LORD’S PRAYER
Our Father who art in heaven; Hallowed be Thy name.
Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth, as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our coming day’s bread;
And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors;
And lead us not into trial, but deliver us from the Evil One.
For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.

HYMN When All Thy Mercies, O My God

OLD TESTAMENT READING
Frederica Jones
Deuteronomy 18:15–22

Leader: The Word of the Lord
People: Thanks be to God

RESPONSIVE PSALM
Psalm 77:11–20

I will remember the deeds of the LORD;
yes, I will remember your wonders of old.
12I will ponder all your work,
     and meditate on your mighty deeds.
13Your way, O God, is holy.
What god is great like our God?
14You are the God who works wonders;
     you have made known your might among the peoples.
15You with your arm redeemed your people,
the children of Jacob and Joseph.
16When the waters saw you,
     O God, when the waters saw you,
     they were afraid; indeed, the deep trembled.
17The clouds poured out water;
the skies gave forth thunder;
your arrows flashed on every side.
18The crash of your thunder was in the whirlwind;
     your lightnings lighted up the world;
     the earth trembled and shook.
19Your way was through the sea,
your path through the great waters;
yet your footprints were unseen.
20You led your people like a flock
     by the hand of Moses and Aaron.

For the Beauty of the Earth
Words: Folliott Pierpoint (1837–1917)
Music: John Rutter (b. 1945)

For the beauty of the earth,
For the beauty of the skies,
For the love which from our birth
Over and around us lies.

Lord of all, to thee we raise
This our joyful hymn of praise.

For the beauty of each hour
Of the day and of the night,
Hill and vale, and tree and flow’r,
Sun and moon, and stars of light.

For the joy of human love,
Brother, sister, parent, child,
Friends on earth, and friends above,
For all gentle thoughts and mild.
