Divorced? Separated? We can help. Find help. Discover hope. Experience healing. DivorceCare helps you recover from the pain of separation and divorce. DivorceCare is a support group that meets weekly. You’ll find a warm, caring environment and will come to see your group as an oasis in an otherwise difficult season of life. There are three key elements to your experience: video seminar, group discussion and a personal workbook.

Unless you’ve been there it’s hard to understand the hurt that comes from separation and divorce. That’s why many of your friends and family don’t fully understand what you are going through and don’t know how to best help you.

We understand. DivorceCare groups are led by people who have been through divorce and successfully rebuilt their lives. We understand how you feel because we’ve been in the same place. We’ll show you how to deal with the hurt caused by your separation and divorce.

DivorceCare is a network of 13,000+ churches worldwide equipped to offer divorce support groups. The program is non-demonominational and features biblical teaching for recovering from divorce or separation. Learn more about DivorceCare, or join our Meetup group to stay up-to-date on our meeting calendar.

    All Church Call to Prayer

    October 19

    Details

Few things are more clear in Scripture than the call to pray, or the promise that God responds to His people’s humble and heart-felt cry for help. Yet often we do everything but pray. We study, we work, we plan, we discuss—we even wear ourselves out doing so. But do we pray, and do we pray together? Karl Barth once summarized the message of Pentecost with these words: The Spirit comes when He is sighed for, cried for, and prayed for. Feeling a need to fall on our knees before God and cry out for help, the Elders have scheduled an Evening of Corporate Prayer on October 19. We are asking ourselves two questions: What do we most deeply want? and Is it what God wants for us? So as we gather together to pray can we keep asking those questions—especially the second one? What does God want for us? And let us pray: “Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.”

Book Club: Born A Crime: Stories from a South African Childhood by Trevor Noah

    Women

    October 22

    Details

Trevor Noah’s unlikely path from apartheid South Africa to the desk of The Daily Show began with a criminal act: his birth. Trevor was born to a white Swiss father and a black Xhosa mother at a time when such a union was punishable by five years in prison. Living proof of his parents’ indiscretion, Trevor was kept mostly indoors for the earliest years of his life, bound by the extreme and often absurd measures his mother took to hide him from a government that could, at any moment, steal him away. Finally liberated by the end of South Africa’s tyrannical white rule, Trevor and his mother set forth on a grand adventure, living openly and freely and embracing the opportunities won by a centuries-long struggle.

Born a Crime is the story of a mischievous young boy who grows into a restless young man as he struggles to find himself in a world where he was never supposed to exist. It is also the story of that young man’s relationship with his fearless, rebellious, and fervently religious mother—his teammate, a woman determined to save her son from the cycle of poverty, violence, and abuse that would ultimately threaten her own life.
