    The Cost of Discipleship

    LDI Weekly Devotionals

Sometimes it's good to get back to the basics. That’s what Lenten Discipleship Institute 2020 is all about. It is remembering who Jesus is in your life. It is a challenge to put Christ first before other people and other things. It is recommitting to a life of spiritual growth and prayer. It is a reminder that others should come before yourself.

There is a cost to all this. It’s costs you your life. Total abandonment. There is a gain as well. Ironically that which you are called to lose you actually gain – your life.

In the Gospel of Mark, Jesus shapes the lives of his disciples in a unique way from chapter’s 8 through 10. Interacting with them, he offers counsel, correction, and encouragement. LDI 2020 will explore this section of scripture, and together we will apply the cost of discipleship to our lives.

What is the Lenten Discipleship Institute 2020 experience like?

Lent is a season of inward reflection leading to a life of action in obedience to Christ. Our Lenten Discipleship Institute (LDI) is designed to assist those involved to think deeply about their walk with Christ through personal reflection in connection with community life.

LDI spans a six week period starting the Sunday after Ash Wednesday and continuing through Easter. It is comprised of three major components:

    1. Attendance in our worship services and mini-teachings to introduce our small group times offer teaching content for growth and reflection.
    2. At the heart of the LDI experience are intergenerational small groups which meet at Park Street each Sunday in the morning, afternoon, and evening to talk through our theme and the application of it to our lives. In this context authentic friendships of encouragement and accountability develop broadening the tapestry of relationships within our church family.
    3. Devotional materials and activities connected to our theme will be given each week so that our thoughts are drawn daily towards the biblical truths we are considering throughout this Lenten season.

    When does LDI 2020 meet?

LDI begins on SUN, MAR 1. Small groups meet each Sunday through April 5. Small groups will consist of 6-10 people.

    Three options are available:

    • Early Session 9:45 – 11:00 AM Designed for those who attend either the 8:30 am service or 11 am service. Light morning refreshments will be provided.
    • Late Morning Session 11:25 – 12:45 PM Designed specifically for those who serve in volunteer roles on Sunday mornings (Choir members, children’s workers, hospitality team volunteers, etc.). Lunch will be provided.
    • Evening Session 5:30 – 7:00 PM Designed for those who attend the 4:00 PM service. Dinner will be provided.

What should I do with my children during LDI 2020?

All children age 13 and above are invited to participate in LDI (as long as they are registered!). Childcare is available for children, tweens and youth through our regular Sunday classes and programming for the early session at no additional cost. Childcare is also provided as well as lunch and dinner for children 12 and under in conjunction with the late morning and evening sessions of LDI at additional cost.

How do I register and what are the costs associated with LDI 2020?

Registration is done only online. Deadline to register is WED, FEB 26.

There is a fee of $20 per participant which covers the overhead costs of the program such as refreshments/meals, booklets, printing, etc. Childcare for the late morning session and the evening session costs $10 for 1 child, $20 for two children, and $25 dollars for 3 or more children. This covers the cost of hired childcare staff and meals for the children. Spouses must register separately.

Divorced? Separated? We can help. Find help. Discover hope. Experience healing. DivorceCare helps you recover from the pain of separation and divorce. DivorceCare is a support group that meets weekly. You’ll find a warm, caring environment and will come to see your group as an oasis in an otherwise difficult season of life. There are three key elements to your experience: video seminar, group discussion and a personal workbook.

Unless you’ve been there it’s hard to understand the hurt that comes from separation and divorce. That’s why many of your friends and family don’t fully understand what you are going through and don’t know how to best help you.

We understand. DivorceCare groups are led by people who have been through divorce and successfully rebuilt their lives. We understand how you feel because we’ve been in the same place. We’ll show you how to deal with the hurt caused by your separation and divorce.

DivorceCare is a network of 13,000+ churches worldwide equipped to offer divorce support groups. The program is non-demonominational and features biblical teaching for recovering from divorce or separation. Learn more about DivorceCare, or join our Meetup group to stay up-to-date on our meeting calendar.

"Is U.S. capitalism compatible with a Christian vision of human flourishing?"

a debate between Dr. Anne Rathbone Bradley and Dr. Ron Sider

On Saturday, MARCH 14 from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Boston Fellows in co-sponsorship with the Faith and Finance Forum at Gordon College will host a unique, extended exchange between two notable Christian voices on these crucial issues, in what promises to be a model of civil discourse.

    • How should Christians view our current economic system?
    • Does it empower the disadvantaged, or favor the privileged?
    • What outcome is likely from growing inequality?

The American conversation on Economics is more polarized today than any time in our history. Many voices in public life today are calling into question the fundamentals of the system. Young voters, especially, decry its inequalities and blame it for our environmental problems.

Registration is $15 and includes lunch. In order to reserve your spot, please register by Thursday, MARCH 12
