Local Outreach

Park Street Church’s presence in the heart of Boston’s urban downtown gives our church body many opportunities to demonstrate God’s heart for the city and to join him in his work by extending Christ’s love to our neighbors.

Local Initiatives

We seek to love the City of Boston and beyond through our outreach to our neighbors who live outdoors on Boston Common, through the Woman’s Benevolent Society and our ministries to undergraduate, graduate and international college students and scholars.

Thursday Night Outreach

The Thursday Night Outreach (TNO) team began in 2006, when we felt a calling to reach out to those who spend most of their time out on the Boston Common. We embrace 1 John 3:18: “Dear children, let us not love with words or tongue but with actions and in truth,”  as our calling to serve both the physical and spiritual needs of these our neighbors.  Each Thursday we spend time in Scripture before we head out on to the Common, so that we are centered on God before we put his words into action. We cook and provide a meal and some basic essentials, but the key feature of our ministry is the relationships that we build.

Boston Healthcare Fellowship

The Boston Healthcare Fellowship exists to serve the Christian healthcare community in Boston by providing fellowship, education and mentorship for those training in diverse fields such as clinical medicine, public health, nursing, research, dentistry, and physical therapy. As brothers and sisters within biomedical research and health care, we desire to follow Jesus as we seek to alleviate human suffering and promote health in His name. We are working together as students, clinicians, researchers and educators to serve faithfully in the university, community and global mission fields. Our common tasks in all of these arenas and initiatives are:

  • To define ourselves as followers of Jesus;
  • To train ourselves to be clinicians, researchers and educators in Christ’s name; and To enable others to do the same.

Woman’s Benevolent Society - “SERVING GOD BY SERVING OTHERS”

WBS Video

The Woman’s Benevolent Society has been a special presence and ministry since the church’s founding in 1809—more than 200 years ago. Along with practical projects, Woman’s Benevolent members are committed to missionary care and zealous prayer. All women are invited to meet on Wednesdays (OCT to MAY) from 10:00 AM to 1:30 PM to work, enjoy lunch together, and pray for our missionaries and the needs of Park Street, our government and the world.

Some projects:

  • Sending greeting cards to missionaries, shut-ins and congregants.
  • Prepare canceled stamps for the Alliance Stamp Ministry at Shell Point, FL, where they raise funds from the sale of the stamps.  The proceeds are used to publish Sunday School materials in Spanish for 13 Latin American countries, plus Spain and the US.
  • Knitting, crocheting and quilting items for first time mothers, the Thursday Night Outreach Ministry, and missionaries and their children.
  • Turning used Christmas cards into ornaments for Child Evangelism Fellowship, who give them out at “Christmas Parties for Jesus.”
  • Sewing stuffed toys for missionaries to give to children in hospitals and orphanages in the Middle East and Africa.
  • Hosting an annual luncheon during Missions Emphasis Week to thank our missionaries and be inspired by their work.

Please join us and bring your lunch—beverages and dessert are provided.  If you are not able to attend in person but would like to work on projects at home, please let us know!

Park Street Refugee Ministry

In 2016, the United Nations referred 100,000 refugees from around the world to be resettled in the U.S. Nearly 85,000 were admitted into the US and nearly 2,000 refugees were resettled across Massachusetts. In 2017, refugees continue to be resettled in greater Boston but in much lower numbers. Refugees arrive monthly from places such as Iraq, Burma, Bhutan, Somalia, Sudan, Afghanistan. They have gone through almost unfathomable suffering and loss. In partnership with the Greater Boston Refugee Ministry, a ministry of Emmanuel Gospel Center, Park Street Church seeks to help meet the needs of refugees who come to the U.S. from countries all around the world. While serving these families together, we hope that the church will gain a deeper understanding of what it means to love our neighbor.
