The mission heart of Park Street Church is to attempt great things for God with the prayer that God be in it—because we can not do it on our own.
From her very inception, Park Street Church has had the privilege of being part of historical missions movements: being instrumental in the founding of the American Board of Commissioners for Foreign Missions (America’s First Faith Missions), and helping to send out America’s first overseas missionaries to India and Burma. In 1819, we had the privilege of commissioning seventeen missionaries to the Hawaiian Islands. They set sail on a 163-day voyage, finally landing in 1820 and commencing many years of pioneering missions to unreached peoples. Since that initial departure in 1820, hundreds of men, women and children have set sail from this church—both literally and metaphorically—to serve as Christian missionaries all over the world. Our work continues today, for we believe that as the Father sent Jesus, so has Jesus sent his church to the nations in order to bear witness to the good news of salvation. We want to live out this mission! We are committed to making Christ known to every nation and all peoples!
