2024 SHORT-TERM MISSIONS OPPORTUNITIES

This year Park Streeters will spread out to points all over the globe as part of our short-term missions (STM) outreach. We are committed to short-term missions for many reasons. For one, it keeps us connected with the world and supports the ongoing work of our missionaries and partners on the field. It also gives our congregation opportunities to serve shoulder-to-shoulder, deepening our community and our commitment to the mission of God here and to the ends of the earth.
LEWISTON, ME | JUL 28-AUG 2 | Root Cellar Ministry to Refugees

COST: $600

Park Street will be heading to Lewiston, Maine again to work among a community of refugees predominately from the war-torn country of Somalia. Our team will be joining the ministry of the Root Cellar to reach out to this community in practical ways. Team members will help conduct an afternoon vacation Bible school-type program, lead a soccer program, tutor English, prepare and serve meals, and help with various service projects.

Check out the Root Cellar’s ministry at therootcellar.org.

Apply by February 23.

REVERE BEACH, MA | AUG 12-17 | Reach the Beach Evangelism Project

SUGGESTED DONATION: $100

Park Street Church will join with other area churches again this summer for the annual “Reach the Beach” evangelism project. Team members use various methods to engage those they meet in spiritual conversations. In this diverse neighborhood of Revere Beach, people from many nationalities visit the literature table to receive Bibles and Jesus Film DVDs in their own language. Live music, activities for kids, facing painting, drama, and a prayer table are all activities that draw people into fruitful interactions, as they enjoy a day at the beach.

Apply by May 15.

MIDDLE EAST 1 | DATES TBD | ESL for Medical Professionals

ESTIMATED COST: $2,500

This summer, Park Street will continue to develop relationships built several years ago with a Christian mission hospital in an under-served area of the Middle East. We are seeking volunteers to help the nursing staff of this hospital improve their English language skills. Being more proficient in English would enable nurses to better communicate and interact with visiting non-Arab medical teams. Team members will use prepared materials to teach basic English, as well as offer medical content-based lessons, and provide conversational practice. Teaching and/or nursing experience would be helpful but is not necessary.

Apply by May 15.

MIDDLE EAST 2 | OCT 12-22 | Outreach & Sports Ministry

ESTIMATED COST: $2600

This team will participate in “Seed Week” in one of the largest cities in the world. The team will join a ministry team and local partners in sowing seeds around the city. Members will receive training in starting spiritual conversations and praying for people’s needs. Then they will go out with others to places such as parks, malls, and universities to find English speakers who are interested in talking about Jesus. Depending on interests and availability, there will also be opportunities in a wide range of other activities, including prayer walking,  practicing English with local missionaries, coaching soccer or baseball, serving at a refugee service program, or supporting media and technologytools.

Apply by May 15.

GREECE | Refugee Relief Ministry Intern | 1-3 Months

Estimated cost: TBD

Volunteers needed to serve with Christian ministry providing practical and spiritual support for refugees living in Athens from the countries of Afghanistan, Iran, and Iraq. This is an opportunity to serve this community of people whose lives have been torn by war and conflict. Ministry tasks include opportunities such as meal preparation, sharing devotions and personal testimony, leading children’s programs, sorting donations, and befriending refugees. Interns are responsible to raise financial support.

The Park Street Pathways Ministry team has served with this refugee center the past two years. The center was established by Middle Eastern believers and is run by an international staff through AVC Father’s Heart Ministry, headquartered in Switzerland.

For more information, contact Andrea Zvara, Director of Global Outreach, at [email protected].

JAPAN | Launch Program Intern | 6-12 Months

Estimated cost: $1,500/month, plus airfare

PSC missionaries who run the Launch Training Program for newly arrived missionaries to Japan would like assistance with running the Jr. Launch kids program for the children of those missionaries. The intern would also be involved in the children’s program at the missionaries’ house church. Both of these commitments would still allow time for Japanese language study, exploring mission work in Japan, assisting families with childcare, or traveling the country. No Japanese language skills required.
