"Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation."  Mark 16:15

SHORT-TERM MISSIONS AND OUR GLOBAL PRIORITIES

Sending out short-term mission (STM) teams is one of the strategies that we use to address our global priorities in missions. All of our trips touch people groups considered to be “unreached” with the gospel and all but one will be engaging Muslim cultures.  Many of our trips aim at partnering with the growing Majority World Church in doing the work of the Gospel in their regions. Two of our trips are interacting with international communities here in the New England area and one team will be supporting the work of scripture engagement in a country where our missionaries recently completed a Bible translation project. Finally our Revere Beach team seeks to engage our city with the good news of the Gospel. By participating in one of these STM trips, you will get a first-hand experience of what God is doing in the world, as well as joining us in addressing our priorities in global missions. Here are the trips that we are planning for the coming year...

JAPAN | OUTREACH MINISTRY | APRIL 16 - 28

TRIP CANCELLED Park Street is sending a short-term team for the first time to Kobe, Japan to come alongside the Kobe Mustard Seed Church plant.  The goal of this trip is to broaden the networks of Mustard Seed Christian Church so that more Japanese may have the chance to truly engage with the gospel message.  Romans 10:17 says, "Faith comes by hearing," but it’s estimated that 95% of the Japanese have never heard the gospel.  Our team will focus on bringing people to meetups and the worship service, where they can connect with the church community and begin to hear and engage with the gospel.

MIDDLE EAST | STUDENT MINISTRY | JUNE 26 – JULY 5

TRIP CANCELLED This year Park Street will partner with Cru, as we send a one-week team to join their 6-week team, to see what God is doing in one of the most interesting and complex cities in the world. This city is the cultural center of a large Muslim nation considered to be unreached with the gospel. The team will engage with students on campus about what it means to know Christ. As they make friends from around the world, they will learn how to start spiritual conversations and share their faith.

CENTRAL ASIA | YOUTH MINISTRY | JULY 24 - AUGUST 7

TRIP CANCELLED The Central Asia Youth Team will return for a second year to support the ongoing work of Park Street missionaries working with Family Life ministry in this Muslim nation. The team will conduct an English camp for local children, and they will help at a local orphanage through teaching English and sports activities. They will also have the opportunity to serve the community through a practical work project.

LEWISTON, ME | REFUGEE MINISTRY | AUGUST 2 - 8

For the sixth summer in a row, Park Street will be heading up to Lewiston, Maine to work in a community with representatives from 52 different nations, the majority of which are refugees from the war-torn country of Somalia. Our team will be joining the ministry of the Root Cellar to reach out to this community in practical ways. Team members will help conduct an afternoon vacation Bible school-type program, a soccer program, tutor English, offer training in technical skills, prepare and serve meals and help with various service projects.

CENTRAL ASIA | FILM & CULTURE MINISTRY | AUGUST 15 - 25

This is the first STM team to this Central Asian country, where we once had long-term workers. The team will consist of two sub-teams. One will focus on videography and film editing for young adults, to help them produce and edit their own short films. The other sub-team will have up to 10 people, who will be matched with young adults from the country, in order to develop personal relationships and help them practice their English. They will travel to different cultural sites to learn more about the history, peoples and traditions of the country.

CENTRAL ASIA | STUDENT MINISTRY | TBD

Park Street will collaborate for the second year, with a local student ministry to conduct a summer camp for university students. The goal is to carry out a week-long project, called Horizons, which would offer ESL classes and short seminars developing professional skills. The project will aim at attracting non-Christians and seekers and team members will have opportunities to share their testimonies about living out Christian faith in today’s world.

REVERE BEACH, MA | EVANGELISM MINISTRY | AUGUST 17 - 22

For the fifth year, Park Street Church will join with other area churches this summer for the annual “Reach the Beach” outdoor evangelism campaign.   Team members use various methods to engage those they meet in spiritual conversations. In this diverse neighborhood, representatives from many nationalities visit the literature table to receive Bibles and Jesus Film DVDs in their own language. Live music, activities for kids, face painting, drama, and a prayer table, are all activities that draw people into fruitful interactions, as they enjoy a day at the beach.

SOUTH AFRICA | PRISON MINISTRY | SEPTEMBER 25 - OCTOBER 5

Park Street will once again be partnering with Hope Prison Ministry for a two-week project in the prisons of South Africa. The team will work alongside missionaries, the Mays and the Paradas. They will assist the Hope Prison Ministry staff in running a Restorative Justice course, which is a discipleship journey with a goal of seeing this generation of prisoners transformed. The team will aid local staff, as they lead this program to help break the cycle of crime and incarceration.

MIDDLE EAST | MINISTRY TO REFUGEES WITH SPECIAL NEEDS | OCTOBER

For the second year, Park Street Church will send a team of medical and allied health professionals to serve the needs of refugee and local children with special needs. Childhood allied health and education specialists are needed to join a team of clinicians. The team would also benefit from the presence of a physician and/or nurse practitioner. Their goal will be to provide consultation, training and support to a local agency working with refugee children with disabilities.

MIDDLE EAST | MEDICAL & ESL MINISTRY | OCTOBER 2 - 11

For the third year, our Middle East Medical & ESL Ministry team is returning to support the work of a local mission hospital. The team needs people to serve in two areas: training medical professionals and teaching English to the nursing and hospital staff. Medical professionals will share their expertise with local doctors and assist in process improvements. ESL Team members will offer English language classes to healthcare workers so they may communicate effectively with the doctors and improve patient care. We are looking for nurses willing to share their experience with the local nurses and work with the ESL instructors assisting with medical English. Throughout the year, we seek to create small teams of medical professionals from PSC and the Arabic church. Dates are flexible; contact [email protected] for more detail - specifically pediatricians, clinical pathologists, medical technologist, microbiologists, physical therapists, nutritionists, and specialists.

KENYA | CHILDREN'S MINISTRY  | NOVEMBER 25 - DECEMBER 3

The Kenya team will present a Vacation Bible School program for the children of missionaries attending the African Inland Mission (AIM) conference. The AIM annual conference meets at Rift Valley Academy, a beautiful Christian boarding school, located in central Kenya. The conference will host missionary families from all over the region, who come for rest, renewal and equipping. Our team will host a program for the elementary school-age children of the missionaries. By providing care, fun, and activities for the missionary kids during this conference week, we can enable the missionaries to have a meaningful time of refreshment through worship and fellowship.
