Tuesday, December 7 | “You’ve Got Mail!”

Jason Peter

What are you hoping for today? Every evening when I get home from work, I walk to the mailbox to examine every package to see if any belong to me. I may not have ordered anything, but there’s a chance I forgot my order, or perhaps Amazon decided to send me something! There is a certain excitement in receiving something good, be it big or small.

All the way back in Genesis 3:15, God promised to send a gift for all of us, and John the Baptist was sent as a reminder of that promise. The prophet Isaiah had also announced the coming of this gift nearly seven hundred years before John. A common theme in both their proclamations was that while this gift, the Lord Jesus Christ and through Him the gospel of salvation, was free to those who would receive it, it had one pre-requisite to enjoy its offering—a repentant heart. Acts 3:19 (NIV) says, “Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord.” The beauty of this is that as we receive Him, the Father receives us into His own, blotting out our sins forever and never bringing them to remembrance. This is not a one-time event but is a daily gift of refreshing joy and freedom in Christ as we press into the arms of Jesus.

What are you hoping for today? The world offers many things but if, like me, you need a true refreshing, come to Him with a repentant heart and watch the barrier of sin be lifted so we can securely dwell in His life-giving presence.
