Day 26

In 2017, I was a global worker in Asia, co-hosting a short-term team of Americans. Early in their visit, a couple of them met a student named Hank while walking around a large university campus. Hank, a linguistics major and fluent English speaker, had heard Bible stories before but never the Gospel.
The short-term workers were ecstatic to report that Hank responded positively to the good news. Later that week, one of the guys and I had the opportunity to follow up with him. As we dug deeper into gospel conversation, we joyfully witnessed his genuine desire to repent and follow Jesus. Hank told us that he felt so amazed and honored that in a city of 15 million people, God arranged for us to meet so that he could know his savior and king. We completely agreed: this was a divine appointment!
Hank’s humble attitude that day reminds me of Mary’s lyrical response to God choosing her. In Luke 1:46–55, Mary’s song of praise to God her savior contains much boasting in the Lord juxtaposed with her own expressions of humility. Out of all the generations and places and women, God arranged to honor his servant Mary with this special favor and calling.
Lord, as I consider my own calling (1 Cor 1:26), I pray that I rejoice in the blessing of knowing you and being known by you with much humility. I also pray that I can be more open to your Holy Spirit leading me to neighbors near and far that are still waiting for the honor of being introduced to their savior and king.
Justin lives in Medford and loves to explore new places by bicycle.
