Amy

When you reflect on God’s character, what is an aspect of His nature that brings a sigh of contentment, that puts your heart at peace?

For me, contemplating God’s unchanging nature elicits that blissful sense of peace. To say that I’m not a fan of change would be a bit of an understatement. The unpredictability that tends to come with change often leaves me feeling unsettled and insecure. During the last couple of years there have been a great many changes, and then there were changes to those changes.

In Luke 1, Mary describes incredible upheavals. God has radically changed the course of her life, and yet, she rejoices in what God is doing. God is fulfilling one of His greatest promises. Mary would have grown up learning of God’s faithfulness in carrying out His promises. But, hearing stories of God’s faithfulness and trusting him in the moment are different experiences. Here, Mary is seeing that faithfulness take place in her own life, and she sings praises to God. She probably had a head full of questions, still, her heart burst into song.

God’s character is unchanging. He is faithful and fulfills His promises. I wonder where we can see glimpses of God’s faithfulness in our lives, in the world around us. Where do we find God calling us to step into the work with Him as He fulfills His promises?

As we become more aware of these things, I wonder if we, like Mary, would find our hearts not only at peace but overflowing with joy and praise.

Amy lives in Natick and has been attending Park Street Church for thirteen years. She loves getting to know people, hearing their stories, and sharing life with them. She also really enjoys spending time with God in nature.
