Flourish for an Occasion, by W. H. Harris (1983-1973)
Nathan Skinner, organ

A New Commandment
Words: John 13:34-35
Music: Richard Shephard (b. 1949)

A new commandment I give unto you;
That you love one another as I have loved you.
By this shall all men know that you are my disciples
If you have love for one another.

* CALL TO WORSHIP from Psalm 47
Jason Abraham, moderator-elect

Leader: Alleluia! Christ is risen.

People: He is risen indeed. Alleluia!

Leader: O clap your hands together, all you peoples;
O cry aloud unto God with shouts of joy.

People: For the Lord Most High is to be feared,
he is the great King over all the earth.

Leader: God has gone up with a triumphant shout,
the Lord with the sound of the trumpet.

People: O sing praises, sing praises unto our God;
O sing praises, sing praises unto our King.

Leader: For God is the King of all the earth;
think upon his mighty acts and praise him with a song.

* HYMN No. 295 Crown Him with Many Crowns

Our Father who art in heaven; Hallowed be Thy name.
Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth, as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our coming day’s bread;
And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors;
And lead us not into trial, but deliver us from the Evil One.
For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.

See What Love
Words: 1 John 3:1
Music: Felix Mendelssohn (1809-1847)

See what love hath the Father bestowed on us in his goodness,
That we should be called God’s own children.

* HYMN No. 310 Rejoice, the Lord is King

Crown Imperial, by William Walton (1902-1983)
Nathan Skinner, organ

Note: Today’s postlude evokes the image of a king ascending to his throne in splendor; it was composed for such an occasion in the human sphere (the coronation service of George VI in Westminster Abbey) and thus provides a faint echo by which we might savor the glorious ascension of Jesus Christ, King of kings, to his heavenly throne.
