Come, Holy Ghost, by J. S. Bach (1685-1750)
Nathan Skinner, organ

INTROIT
Veni Sancte Spiritus
Words: traditional, by 13th cent.
Music: George Fenton (b. 1949)

Veni Sancte Spiritus,
Come, Holy Spirit,
Et emitte caelitus
And Send from heaven,
Lucis tuae radium.
The ray of your light.

Veni, veni pater pauperum,
Come, father of the poor,
Veni datur munerum,
Come, giver of all gifts,
Veni lumen cordium.
Come, light of all hearts.

* CALL TO WORSHIP from Ezekiel 36&37 and Psalm 150
Leslie Liu, elder

Leader: Thus says the Lord God: “Behold, I will open your graves and raise you from your graves, O my people.”

People: Praise the Lord. Praise God in his holiness; praise him in the firmament of his power.

Leader: “I will give you a new heart, and a new spirit I will put within you. And I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh.”

People: Praise him for his mighty acts; praise him for his excellent greatness.

Leader: “I will put my Spirit within you, and you shall live, and I will place you in your own land. You shall be my people, and I will be your God.”

People: Praise him with the sound of the trumpet; praise him upon the lute and harp. Let everything that has breath praise the Lord.

* HYMN Come Down, O Love Divine!

* INVOCATION, CONFESSION, & LORD’S PRAYER
Our Father who art in heaven; Hallowed be Thy name.
Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth, as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our coming day’s bread;
And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors;
And lead us not into trial, but deliver us from the Evil One.
For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.

ANTHEM
O Spirit All-Embracing
Words: Delores Dufner (b. 1939)
Music: Joel Martinson (b. 1960)

O Spirit all-embracing and counselor all-wise,
unbounded splendor gracing a shoreless sea of skies:
unfailing is your treasure, unfading your reward;
surpassing worldly pleasure, the riches you afford.
Come, stream of endless flowing, and rescue us from death;
Come, wind of springtime blowing, and warm us by your breath.

O Beauty ever blazing in flower, field, and face,
you show yourself amazing in unexpected place.
We see you and remember what once our dreams had been;
you fan the glowing ember and kindle hope within.
Come, fire of glory gracious, bless all who trust in you;
undying flame tenacious, burn in your church anew.

Come, passion’s power holy, your insight here impart,
and give your servant lowly an understanding heart
to know your care more clearly when faith and love are tried,
to seek you more sincerely when false ideals have died:
for vision we implore you, for wisdom’s pure delight;
in prayer we come before you to wait upon your light.
