  • Director of the Sunday Night Band

Park Street Church is seeking applications for the position of Director of the Sunday Night Band. This is a part-time position (20 hours/week).

    The Church

Located in the heart of Boston, Park Street Church has had three defining characteristics throughout its 209-year history: a commitment to excellent preaching of the inerrant Word of God, spreading that Gospel to the ends of the earth, and the training of its people to live out the transforming power of the love of Christ in every area of their lives. We are Congregational, Evangelical, and International.

Park Street Church has three worship services each Sunday. The more traditional 8:30 and 11:00am services are led musically by choir and organ. Music at the 4:00pm service is led by the Sunday Night Band. The Director of Music oversees the complete music ministry, while the Director of the Sunday Night Band is given broad latitude to lead the band and to shape the repertoire and sound of that service.

The congregation of the 4pm service consists of 200+ people, many of whom are in their 30s and 40s. There are families, single people, students, and working professionals. This community seeks to be hospitable to both Christians and non-Christians, especially aiming to engage the needs of the city; and we value theological and intellectual richness based in Scripture, as well as worship that, by the Holy Spirit, enlivens our faith and leads to transformed lives of holiness.

    The Worship Service

Park Street Church takes a high view of worship, which stands at the center of our life together. We believe that God is uniquely present with us in worship, and thus our meetings are not merely for education and inspiration. We do not view the Sunday Night Band as performing for the congregation, but accompanying the congregation as we sing to the Triune God.

The 4pm congregation values approaches to worship that juxtapose ancient liturgy, informality in our relationships, and an eclectic blend of hymns and contemporary songs (including composition of new music). The Director of the Sunday Night Band must therefore be comfortable with a variety of musical styles, from ancient to modern, in addition to possessing strong vocal ability to lead the congregation in singing.

The Sunday Night Band typically consists of several singers, acoustic and electric guitars, bass, drums, piano, and other instruments as needed. Band members are all highly skilled musicians, many of whom are professionals with ties to Berklee College of Music.

We are seeking a leader who has a vibrant faith in Jesus Christ, a pastoral heart to serve the band and congregation, and a passion for leading and growing this important part of our body life. To apply, please send CV and relevant video links to Nathan Skinner, Director of Music
