Come, Creator Spirit by J.S. Bach (1685–1750)

INTROIT
Hail Thee, Festival Day
Words:  Venantius Fortunatus (c. 530–609)
Music: Ralph Vaughan Williams (1872–1958)

Hail thee, festival day! Blest day that art hallowed for ever,
day whereon God from heaven shone in the world with his grace.

Lo, in the likeness of fire, on them who await his appearing,
he whom the Lord had foretold suddenly, swiftly descends:

Hark! for in myriad tongues Christ’s own, his chosen apostles,
preach to the ends of the earth Christ and his wonderful works.

* CALL TO WORSHIP from Acts 2 & Psalm 150
led by Cindy Cutlip, Elder

Leader: When the day of Pentecost came,
they were all together in one place.
People: Praise God in his sanctuary;
praise him in his mighty heavens.

Leader: Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting.
People: Praise him for his acts of power;
praise him for his surpassing greatness.

Leader: They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them.
People: Let everything that has breath, praise the Lord.

* OPENING HYMN Come Down, O Love Divine

* INVOCATION, CONFESSION, & LORD’S PRAYER
Our Father who art in heaven; Hallowed be Thy name.
Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth, as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our coming day’s bread;
And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors;
And lead us not into trial, but deliver us from the Evil One.
For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.
