INTROIT
Lord, I Trust Thee
Words: Barthold Heinrich Brockes (1680–1747)
Music: G. F. Handel (1685–1759)
Park Street Chamber Choir

Lord I trust thee, I adore thee.
Ah thou friend of man, restore me!
On thy loving grace relying,
for the bread of life I’m sighing.
Quench my thirst and let my hunger cease.
Fill my heart with joy and endless peace.
When the breath of life has left me,
may my soul be blended with thee.

* CALL TO WORSHIP from Psalm 63
David Rix, Moderator

Leader: You, God, are my God, earnestly I seek you;
I thirst for you, my whole being longs for you.
People: I have seen you in the sanctuary
and beheld your power and your glory.
Leader: Because your love is better than life, my lips will glorify you.
People: In your name I will lift up my hands. With singing lips my mouth will praise you.

* HYMN No. 343 Christ Is Made the Sure Foundation

* INVOCATION, CONFESSION, & LORD’S PRAYER
Our Father who art in heaven; Hallowed be Thy name.
Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth, as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our coming day’s bread;
And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors;
And lead us not into trial, but deliver us from the Evil One.
For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.

Love Bade Me Welcome
Words: 1633 | George Herbert (1593-1633)
Music: 1911 | Ralph Vaughan Williams (1872-1958)

Love bade me welcome: yet my soul drew back.
Guilty of dust and sin.
But quick-eyed Love, observing me grow slack
from my first entrance in,
drew nearer to me, sweetly questioning
if I lacked anything.

“A guest,” I answered, “worthy to be here:”
Love said, “You shall be he.”
“I the unkind, ungrateful? Ah, my dear,
I cannot look on thee.”
Love took my hand, and smiling did reply,
“Who made the eyes but I?”

“Truth Lord, but I have marred them:
let my shame go where it doth deserve.”
“And know you not,” says Love, “who bore the blame?”
“My dear, then I will serve.”
“You must sit down,” says Love, “and taste my meat:”
So I did sit and eat.
